Market dynamics defy conventional wisdom in cattle industry, expert says

Imagine you are holding a funnel in your hand. All the information there is goes into the top of the funnel, and what comes out at the bottom of it is the perfect distillation of that information, and we call that the bid. I say it is perfect because it is expressed in numerical form and we can use that in algebraic equations, called cattle squares, to figure out what we can and just as importantly what we cannot do to prosper ourselves.

Humans have this warped fascination with having to figure out how we got to the point we are at with the bid. For that reason, some people waste time going back up into the funnel to figure that out. Some come up with entertaining fictional stories. On new media we’ve been hearing about seasonality, or how to manage a cow herd with no depreciation, to why herd rebuilding can’t take place.
