Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins says the Trump administration is prioritizing a long-term solution for highly pathogenic avian influenza.
“Avian flu and the price of eggs is the number one issue in the country right now,” she said. “People are hurting. Our poultry producers are hurting, and families are hurting.”
She tells Brownfield the increase in detections has caused egg prices to soar. “My very first briefing on day one Thursday night was about this. We will be rolling out a plan very soon, probably in the next week, to talk about how to combat that. It will be a longer-term fix. The problem is we can’t bring egg prices down within a few days and we can’t solve the avian flu crisis within a few days.”
